A terrible tragedy has shaken Greek football: seven PAOK supporters lost their lives in a car accident while traveling to the Europa League match against Lyon. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Romania — a minibus carrying fans en route to France was involved in a fatal crash.
Details: According to The Athletic, a special ceremony will be held during Thursday’s match to honor the victims. Greek authorities have pledged to provide the best possible medical care for the injured and to do everything in their power to ensure their swift return home.
It is also reported that the Greek government and embassy are already coordinating with Romanian authorities to assist the survivors and the families of the deceased. PAOK president Ivan Savvidis said he is devastated by this unimaginable tragedy.
"I mourn together with the families and millions of our compatriots. My thoughts are with the loved ones of those lost, and I pray for the recovery of those now fighting for their lives in hospital," the club president emphasized.
On Wednesday, the team observed a minute of silence at training in memory of the fans, while supporters began bringing flowers to the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki.
