The International Football Association Board (IFAB), responsible for introducing new football rules, has decided to take a proactive stance against time-wasting by goalkeepers.
Details: According to The Times, a new restriction for goalkeepers will soon be tested in football.
Under the IFAB proposal, goalkeepers will have a maximum of 8 seconds to put the ball back in play. However, instead of a yellow card for time-wasting, a corner kick will be awarded. This means that if a goalkeeper tries to waste time, the opposing team will gain possession of the ball via a corner kick.
The first tests of this rule are expected to take place in the lower leagues of England.
Reminder: It was previously reported that FIFA is considering the introduction of a new rule affecting coaches.
