2027 AFCON qualifiers: Egyptian referee appointed to officiate Zimbabwe v DR Congo clash

The Confederation of African Football has appointed Amin Mohamed Omar to officiate this match, scheduled for Monday 28 September at the National Sports Stadium in Harare, as part of matchday 2 of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Kick-off for this high-profile fixture is scheduled for 4 pm GMT. To oversee the match, the governing body has selected Amin Mohamed Omar, an Egyptian referee with extensive experience of international fixtures.

The 41-year-old official has extensive experience on the African and international stage. Notably, he was selected for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he refereed the tournament’s opening match. Amin Mohamed Omar was also on duty at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

His international career also includes an appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, held in Brazil in 2019. For this fixture between Zimbabwe and the DR Congo, Amin Mohamed Omar will therefore be responsible for ensuring the match runs smoothly at the National Sports Stadium.
