2027 AFCON qualifiers: DR Congo beat Zimbabwe at the National Sports Stadium

The Leopards pulled off a fine result in Harare on 28 September on matchday 2 of the qualifiers for the next Africa Cup of Nations.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo beat Zimbabwe, despite the hosts playing in front of their home crowd at the National Sports Stadium. Sébastien Desabre’s side sealed their victory in the first half.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo dominated the Warriors from the kick-off with a number of attempts. However, the game remained deadlocked for the first 29 minutes.

The deadlock was broken in the 30th minute by Yoane Wissa, who opened the scoring for the DR Congo to make it 1-0. The Congolese striker capitalised on a poor clearance by the Zimbabwean goalkeeper to send the ball into the back of the net.

But the Leopards doubled their lead before the break. An assist from Yoane Wissa allowed Samuel Moutoussamy to make it 2–0 in first-half stoppage time.

Munetsi salvaged some pride for Zimbabwe in the second half. He pulled one back in the 93rd minute to make it 2–1 before the final whistle.

The Leopards won this clash and sit alone at the top of Group E after the first two matchdays of these qualifiers.
