At the ATP 250 tournament in Doha, a sensational outcome unfolded.

In the quarterfinal match, 18-year-old Czech player Jakub Mensik (ATP No. 116) defeated the top seed and world No. 5, Andrey Rublev, in straight sets.

ATP 250 Doha. Quarterfinals:

Jakub Mensik (Czech Republic) - Andrey Rublev - 6:4, 7:6(6)

Mensik has already secured his debut in the top 100 of the world rankings. In the next round, he will face the winner of the French clash between Hugo Humbert and Gaël Monfils.

It's worth noting that Jakub was included in the main draw under the new Next Gen rule, which allows the top players under 20 years old to directly participate in some main draws of ATP tournaments.

After the match, Mensik gave an amusing interview on the court:

"It's been an incredible week right from the start. I played really well. I knew I could compete with top-level opponents. Making it to the semifinals and defeating such strong players—it's an amazing, unbelievable feeling. I feel fantastic."

"According to the new ATP rule, players under 20 in the top 250 can enter an ATP 250 main draw once. Why did you choose Doha?"

"They gave me a free iPhone (laughs). No, actually, I have to say that I just didn't have the opportunity before, and this is the first tournament I managed to attend."
