The reigning Egyptian champions are in excellent form. Ghazl El Mahalla vs Zamalek prediction
Ghazl Al Mahalla
Ghazl El Mahalla and Zamalek will meet on Wednesday, 16 September, in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League. The match will kick off at 19:00 CET. I am backing a goals market in this game.
H2H and statistical facts
• El Mahalla are still without a win this season.
• Zamalek have won five matches in a row.
• Zamalek have suffered just one away defeat in the Premier League in 2026.
• The teams have not drawn at El Mahalla's ground since 2007.
Ghazl El Mahalla have made a very poor start to the new Egyptian Premier League season. The team have collected just one point from their opening four matches and currently sit at the bottom of the table. The campaign began particularly badly, with a 3-0 home defeat to Pyramids followed by a 2-0 loss to Modern Sport.
The situation improved slightly in the third round. At home, Ghazl El Mahalla drew 0-0 with ENPPI. The team managed to keep a clean sheet, but their attacking problems remained. They failed to score in each of their first three matches.
Ghazl El Mahalla scored their first goal of the season in the fourth round against National Bank. However, it was not enough even to earn a point, as their opponents won 3-1. Abdo Yahya scored the team's only goal. As a result, after four rounds, Ghazl El Mahalla have just one point and only one goal scored, while they have already conceded eight.

Zamalek, by contrast, have made an almost perfect start to the season. The Cairo club have won three of their four matches and head into the fifth round among the leaders. In their recent games, the team have gradually picked up momentum and shown increasing confidence in attack.
Zamalek were particularly impressive in their fourth-round meeting with Premier League newcomers Abu Qir Fertilizers. On 8 September, the team won 2-0 thanks to goals from Mohamed Ismail in the 17th minute and Ahmed Sherif late on.
Zamalek have also already begun their international campaign. In the CAF Champions League qualifying round, the Egyptian club faced Somalia's AS Port. Zamalek won the first leg away from home 2-1 before thrashing their opponents 4-0 in the return fixture. They therefore progressed with a 6-1 aggregate score and head into the match against Ghazl El Mahalla on the back of another confident performance.
The tight schedule is currently the main challenge for Zamalek. Nevertheless, the visitors clearly have the better form on their side. In terms of squad quality and their results at the start of the season, the reigning Egyptian champions look like clear favourites.
What to bet on?
Zamalek head into the match in considerably better shape. The visitors comfortably negotiated the first round of Champions League qualifying and possess a significantly stronger attack. Ghazl El Mahalla are still struggling badly to create chances and find the net. The most likely scenario is that Zamalek will claim all three points through greater control of the game and superior individual quality.
