Spanish football club Celta is mourning the loss of a landmark figure in its history.

Details: Former Celta president José Luis Alejo Álvarez has died in Vigo at the age of 83. He led the Galician club from 1990 to 1991. The team’s press office officially announced the heartbreaking news.

Celta’s board expressed its deep sorrow and sent its sincere condolences to the official’s family, loved ones and friends during this difficult time. In the city and among the supporters, he was also known by the nickname Pilis, linked to his family’s business.

Alejo Álvarez took charge of the club during a challenging transitional period in the early 1990s. Despite his brief spell at the helm, he made a significant contribution to maintaining stability within Celta’s structure.

Celta supporters are paying tribute to a man who devoted part of his life to serving the Vigo-based club.

It is worth noting that 37 presidents have led Celta over the club’s more than century-long history. José Luis Alejo Álvarez was in charge for three months at the turn of 1990 and 1991, before handing over the reins to Eloy de Francisco.
