On November 8, Celta will host Levante at their home stadium in matchday 12 of the Spanish La Liga season. On paper, this is a meeting between teams with different objectives, although the league table does not yet allow us to speak of a significant advantage for the hosts. The Galicians are sitting in mid-table, while the Valencians are just above the relegation zone. Both sides therefore need points, and simply sitting back in defense is unlikely to be an option.

League position and team form

After 11 matches, Celta have 12 points and occupy 10th place. Claudio Giráldez’s side have a rather curious record: just two wins, six draws and three defeats. At the same time, their goal difference is perfectly even at 10:10. The Galicians do not look hopeless even in difficult games, but they are clearly lacking the consistency needed to regularly turn promising spells into victories.
Levante’s situation is less encouraging. The team have collected 10 points and sit 18th. Two wins, four draws and five defeats explain the Valencians’ position. However, the visitors’ attack is not performing badly: they have scored 16 goals after 12 matchdays. The problem lies elsewhere: their defense has already conceded 21 goals, and the reliability of the back line remains one of the main questions ahead of the trip to Vigo.

Recent results and psychological state

Celta head into this match on an uncomfortable run. On October 31, the team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano, while on November 5 they lost 2-1 at home to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in European competition. Between those setbacks came a goalless draw with Betis and a 2-1 win over Alavés. In other words, Giráldez’s team are capable of picking up points, but have yet to show the necessary consistency. The recent defeat in Vigo is particularly disappointing, as the team must now return to action in front of their own supporters.

Levante cannot boast impressive results either. In their previous five league matches, the Valencians beat Athletic Club 3-1, drew 1-1 with Deportivo and 3-3 with Sevilla, but lost 2-1 to Real Sociedad and 2-0 to Atlético Madrid. Even so, the team showed during this run that they know how to cause problems for opponents who prefer to take the initiative. Three goals against Sevilla and a victory over the Basques are convincing evidence of the visitors’ attacking potential.

Tactical approach and key players

Claudio Giráldez usually favors proactive football built around possession, the use of the flanks and constant movement between the lines. Celta are not a team willing to focus exclusively on defending, even against stronger opponents. At home, the Galicians will surely look to seize the initiative, stretch the opposition defense and create opportunities to play passes into the penalty area.

In attack, Ferran Jutglà deserves attention after already scoring twice in the current league campaign, while Pablo Durán and Iago Aspas will also be key figures. That said, there are some question marks surrounding Aspas and the squad situation in general. According to published reports, Celta players listed as carrying injuries include Borja Iglesias, Carl Starfelt, Miguel Román and Álvaro Núñez. As a result, the final decision on the starting lineup will depend on the players’ fitness immediately before the match.

Levante, under Luis Castro, should not abandon their attacking ideas either. The team are capable of making quick transitions from defense to attack and exploiting space behind the defenders. Roger Brugué is particularly dangerous, having already scored five league goals. Ignasi Miquel Romero also deserves attention: the forward has found the net three times. These players could pose the main threat to the hosts’ defense.

At the same time, the Valencians must avoid leaving themselves too exposed. Against a team that likes to control possession and search for open spaces, an excessively high defensive line could lead to serious problems. In addition, the visitors have one confirmed absentee: Enzo Bardeli is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Head-to-head history

The teams’ recent meetings
do not give us grounds to consider Celta undisputed favorites. In May 2026, Levante defeated the Galicians 3-2, while in November 2025 Celta came out on top away from home, winning 2-1. Thus, the teams have traded victories in their last two encounters, with both sides scoring on each occasion. That adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming match: the Valencians have reason to believe they can secure a positive result, despite their unfavorable position in the table.

In my view, Celta still have the better chances of winning. The Galicians are playing at home, possess a promising attacking group and look like the more balanced team overall. However, their recent results make it impossible to fully trust the hosts. Levante know how to score, and their opponents’ defensive problems could present the visitors with several good opportunities.

I would not rule out the Valencians getting on the scoresheet, but containing the hosts’ pressure throughout the match will be difficult. That will be especially true if Celta open the scoring early and force their opponents to push forward more aggressively.

In terms of goals, over 2 looks like an intriguing option, given both teams’ attacking capabilities and the visitors’ inconsistent defending.

Prediction: Celta to win.
