A Chinese humanoid robot named Lightning has set a new record in the 100-meter dash, clocking an astonishing 9.32 seconds. This time is 0.26 seconds faster than the world record held by Usain Bolt (9.58), established by the Jamaican sprinter at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, reports Reuters.

Lightning, developed by Chinese tech company Honor, reached a top speed of 14.5 meters per second during the competition at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. In the race, the robot not only posted the best result, but also showcased a significant advantage over its rivals.

Another robot also made headlines at the Games. A representative from Beijing-based company X-Humanoid cleared 2.88 meters in the standing high jump, surpassing not only last year's robot record but also the human world record held by Javier Sotomayor—2.45 meters.

This year’s World Humanoid Robot Games feature more than 2,000 machines. The event's program includes 51 disciplines and over 1,000 competitions, ranging from running and football to table tennis. China is using the tournament to showcase the rapid advancement of its domestic robotics industry.
