Will Atlético have Romero snatched from under their nose? Barcelona enters the race for the world champion
Cristian Romero appears to be on the verge of leaving Tottenham, but the fate of the London club’s captain has suddenly become the center of a fierce contest among several top clubs. Atlético remains the frontrunner for the Argentine defender, but in recent days Barcelona has joined the chase, and Arsenal has also shown interest.
According to TEAMtalk, Atlético has already agreed personal terms with Romero, and negotiations with Tottenham over the transfer fee are at an advanced stage. The Madrid club ramped up its pursuit after the sales of Nahuel Molina and Matteo Ruggeri, giving them extra flexibility for the deal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has made a move to hijack the World Cup winner from the Argentina national team. The Catalans hope to create financial room through several potential departures and by loaning Ronald Araújo to Liverpool.
Even more surprising is Arsenal’s interest. The Gunners have contacted Romero’s representatives and view him as a potential reinforcement for the defense following William Saliba’s injury. However, Spurs have flatly refused to enter negotiations with their fierce rivals.
