Wilfred Ndidi Named Super Eagles Captain for AFCON 2025 in Morocco
Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has reportedly been appointed as the new captain of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco.
The Beşiktaş forward has already demonstrated his leadership qualities under Eric Chelle after captaining Nigeria during their recent CAF 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs, also held in Morocco. His calm presence and experience at the international level have made him a natural choice to lead the team into the next major tournament.
Ndidi takes over the captaincy following the international retirement of William Troost-Ekong and Ahmed Musa, both of whom previously served as captains of the national side. Their exits created a leadership gap that Ndidi is now expected to fill as Nigeria begins a new chapter.
The Super Eagles have been placed in Group C for AFCON 2025, and Ndidi will be tasked with guiding the team through a competitive group stage as they begin their campaign for continental success.
