AFCON 2025: Semi Ajayi Named Man of the Match After Nigeria Edge Tanzania 2–1

Semi Ajayi was awarded the Man of the Match following Nigeria’s hard-fought 2–1 victory over Tanzania in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group C opener in Fès on Tuesday night.

The Super Eagles started their tournament campaign on a positive note, overcoming the Taifa Stars with a display that combined defensive solidity and clinical finishing.

Ajayi opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a superb header from Alex Iwobi’s precise cross, marking his second international goal for Nigeria. Beyond his goal, the 32-year-old central defender also delivered a composed and reliable performance at the back, helping Nigeria withstand Tanzania’s pressure. Ajayi now has 45 caps for the Super Eagles, further cementing his experience and importance to the team.

Eric Chelle’s side will next face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in their second Group C match on Saturday.
