Nigeria remain 2–1 ahead against Tanzania in their AFCON 2025 Group C opener, despite Victor Osimhen having a goal ruled out earlier in the match following a VAR review.

The Super Eagles thought they had taken a commanding 2–0 lead in the first half when Osimhen found the back of the net. The Galatasary striker reacted quickly to a dangerous cross from Adams, cleverly flicking the ball home and sparking celebrations among Nigerian fans.

However, the joy was short-lived. After a brief VAR check, the goal was disallowed for offside in the build-up to the move. Replays showed that Osimhen was marginally ahead of the last defender before connecting with the cross, prompting the officials to rule the effort out.
