Nigeria opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania in Fes, Morocco. The Super Eagles took the lead in the 36th minute when Semi Ajayi headed in Alex Iwobi’s cross. Nigeria thought they had doubled the advantage early in the second half, but Victor Osimhen’s goal was ruled out for offside.
Tanzania responded on 52 minutes through Charles M’Mombwa, who finished smartly to level the scores. The joy was short-lived, however, as Ademola Lookman struck moments later with a powerful shot from outside the box to restore Nigeria’s lead. Tanzania pushed late for an equaliser, but Nigeria held firm to claim all three points.
