“We’ve Matured Enough to Win AFCON” — Calvin Bassey Backs Super Eagles for 2025 Glory
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed strong belief in Nigeria’s chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, citing the team’s growth, maturity, and increased experience ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
The Fulham centre-back made the remarks while speaking to the club’s official website alongside fellow Super Eagles stars Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi. According to Bassey, the current squad is far more mature than the one that featured at the last AFCON, giving Nigeria a better chance of making a significant impact next year.
“Yeah, 100 percent. I think at the last AFCON I was 23,” Bassey said.
“I have matured, and a lot of the team have matured as well. We’ve gained a lot of experience.”“So, it would be good for the team and Alex different roles now, he is becoming more of the leadership role.”
Nigeria, three-time winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, have been drawn in Group C for the 2025 tournament, where they will face Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda as they bid for a fourth continental title in Morocco.
