‘We Won't Return to Mozambique on January 5th’ – Kambala Confident Mozambique Can Shock Nigeria at AFCON 2025

Mozambique midfielder Manuel Kambala has backed the Mambas to stun Nigeria when both sides clash in the AFCON 2025 Round of 16 on January 5 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. Nigeria enter as one of the tournament’s most impressive teams, topping their group with maximum points, though defensive concerns remain after conceding four goals.

Mozambique qualified less comfortably, recording one dramatic 3–2 win over Gabon and losses to Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon, yet that victory sealed their first-ever knockout appearance. Despite never beating Nigeria in five meetings, Kambala insists belief is high.

“I believe we will advance… with the team we have,” he said, adding, “we have already demonstrated that we are not just here to participate… I believe we will not return to Mozambique on January 5th.”
