Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini has come up with an idea that, in his view, could make football faster and more exciting.
Details: In an interview with Globo, the Chilean coach suggested banning teams from passing the ball back to their own half once they've crossed the halfway line.
"I think there are rules that could be changed to improve the game. For example, banning teams from taking the ball back into their own half after it has crossed the halfway line. That would make football more dynamic," Pellegrini said.
The coach pointed out that a similar rule already exists in basketball, where it helps keep the tempo of the game high. According to Pellegrini, introducing such a rule in football would reduce the number of backward passes and force teams to attack more often, making matches more thrilling for the fans.
Manuel Pellegrini has previously managed clubs such as Argentina's River Plate, Spain's Villarreal, Real Madrid and Malaga, as well as England's Manchester City and West Ham.
