WAFCON 2026: “We’re going to fight,” promises Valentine Nguele ahead of Cameroon’s clash with Nigeria

Whilst acknowledging the Super Falcons’ historical dominance in the tournament, the head coach of the Indomitable Lionesses is showcasing her team’s determination.

Cameroon face Nigeria on Sunday 9 August in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is taking place in Morocco. On the eve of this clash, the head coach of the Indomitable Lionesses, Valentine Nguele, addressed the media.

At a press conference, the Cameroonian coach admitted that Nigeria remain one of the tournament’s clear favourites. However, she insists that her team will put up a fight against the defending champions.

“Nigeria are a footballing powerhouse and the overwhelming favourites for this tournament. They are a truly great side who have won this tournament 10 times, and that must be emphasised.

They qualified in the best possible circumstances, whilst we were qualified as a lucky loser. But we will approach this match with our usual composure.

We are aware of their strength; we know they are quite experienced, but we too have our own strengths and we promise we will give it our all.”
