WAFCON 2026: “We can be proud,” Dimitri Lipoff relishes Cameroon’s victory over Nigeria

The French coach expressed his satisfaction following the Indomitable Lionesses’ stunning victory over Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

The Cameroon women’s team caused a sensation on Sunday 9 August by knocking out the defending champions, the Super Falcons. It was a resounding victory that delighted the coordinator of the Cameroon women’s national team, Dimitri Lipoff.

Following this performance, which saw Cameroon qualify for the semi-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, Dimitri Lipoff was keen to highlight the work carried out by the Indomitable Lionesses. For the French coach, this success is, above all, the result of the efforts made by the squad.

“We’ve worked hard and today it’s paying off. We played Nigeria, the strongest team in Africa, so we can be proud. We pulled off a feat just like we did against Ghana, so now we’re here.”

Thanks to their qualification for the semi-finals of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which is taking place in Morocco, the Cameroon women’s national team have secured their place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
