WAFCON 2026: Nigeria bounce back against Zambia
The reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions beat the Copper Queens on Matchday 2 of Group C.
The clash between Nigeria and Zambia lived up to all expectations on Saturday 1 August at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. The two teams fought a fierce battle right to the very end.
However, the Nigerian women’s national team came out on top when the final whistle blew. The Super Falcons took the lead in the first half. The ever-present Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring for Nigeria before half-time.
But despite being reduced to 10 after Demehin’s red card, the ten-time African champions did not give in. They held on to their 1–0 lead until the end of the match.
Thanks to this victory, Nigeria have bounced back following their slip-up against Malawi on the opening day.
Group C standings:
- Malawi – 6 points
- Zambia – 3 points
- Nigeria – 3 points
- Egypt – 0 point
