WAFCON 2026: Michelle Alozie named Woman of the Match in Nigeria - Zambia
The Nigerian defender put in a remarkable performance in this clash between the Super Falcons and the Copper Queens.
Nigeria beat Zambia 1–0 on Saturday in their second Group C match at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is being held in Morocco. This vital victory allowed the defending champions to get back on track in the tournament following their defeat on the opening day.
But whilst the winning goal was scored by Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie stood out with her impressive performance throughout the match. The 29-year-old defender played a huge part in the Super Falcons’ success.
Despite being a player down following Demehin’s red card, Michelle Alozie gave the Zambian attack no room to manoeuvre. She defended well and helped Nigeria secure their first win of the tournament.
At the end of the match, Michelle Alozie was recognised for her efforts. She was named Woman of the Match.
