Mali came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with hosts Morocco in Group A of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, leaving the Atlas Lions close to the knockout stage. The game turned on two VAR-checked penalties at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Brahim Diaz put Morocco ahead from the spot in first-half stoppage time after the ball struck Nathan Gassama’s hand.
Mali responded just in the 64th minute when Lassine Sinayoko was fouled by Jawad El Yamiq, the former calmly scoring despite loud whistles. Djigui Diarra later denied Youssef En-Nesyri and prevented a late own goal.
Morocco lead the group with four points, Mali have two, and Group A ends on Monday.
