Turco Mohamed Eyes Redemption Against América in Liga MX Final

Antonio Mohamed is set for a highly personal showdown in the 2025 Clausura Final. As Olé reports, the current Toluca coach will face Club América—his former team that dismissed him ten years ago despite winning the league title.
Appointed in late 2013, Mohamed led América to the 2014 Apertura championship but was let go shortly afterward due to conflicts with management. Tensions arose from internal disagreements and his laid-back leadership style, culminating in a turbulent exit. “I leave them the trophy and take my dignity,” he said after his departure.
Now at the helm of a resurgent Toluca, Mohamed will try to end América’s run of three consecutive titles. The first leg will be played Thursday, May 22, at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, with the second set for Sunday, May 25, at the Nemesio Diez.
Meanwhile, rumors in Argentina suggest Mohamed could be in line to replace Fernando Gago at Boca Juniors. But before considering a return to Buenos Aires, he’ll aim to write a new chapter in Mexico by defeating the club that once let him go.
