Tunisia Become First African Team Eliminated From 2026 World Cup After 4-0 Loss to Japan
Tunisia have become the first African nation eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a heavy 4-0 defeat to Japan in their Group F clash at Estadio Monterrey Guadalupe in Mexico.
The result marks a second consecutive loss for the Carthage Eagles, confirming their exit from the tournament with one group match still remaining. Tunisia are also the third team overall to be knocked out of the competition, following Haiti and Turkey.
The North African side entered the match under significant pressure after a 5-1 opening-day defeat to Sweden. That result led to a change in management, with Sabri Lamouchi departing and Hervé Renard stepping in ahead of the Japan fixture.
However, the coaching change was not enough to spark a turnaround, as Tunisia once again struggled and suffered another comprehensive defeat, ending their World Cup hopes early.
