Tottenham Hotspur captain and defender Cristian Romero is set to continue his career in Italy's Serie A. According to ESPN Argentina, the London club has reached a verbal agreement with Inter Milan for the Argentine's transfer, with the deal valued at €40 million.

Reports indicate that the clubs have already settled the main terms of the transfer, but Romero himself still needs to negotiate personal terms with the Milan side.

The 28-year-old has been with Tottenham since 2021, and last summer, following Son Heung-min’s departure, he was handed the captain's armband. Even before the transfer window opened, Romero had made it clear to the club’s management that he was interested in a new challenge. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were previously linked with the Argentine, but Inter have emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signature. Should the deal go through, Cristian Romero would become one of Inter’s marquee signings this summer.

This off-season, Tottenham have already bolstered their defense by signing Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senemi, which could make it easier for the club to part ways with one of their key players.
