Legendary German footballer Lothar Matthäus told who he considers the best player of the group stage of the European Championship-2024.

According to the German soccer legend, the best player was Austria national team defender Marcel Sabitzer.

"My player of the tournament at the moment is Marcel Sabitzer. I saw him live in Berlin during Austria's 3-2 win over the Netherlands.

His speed, ease, finesse, the way he uses his teammates, the way he works on defense, the speed with which he plays forward - I've hardly seen him like that at Borussia.

Sabitzer stands out in this impressive Austrian team. They finished ahead of France and the Netherlands and were not the worst team in the 1-0 loss to France. This team does and executes what the Dutch and French don't: speed with and without the ball. That's Ralf Rangnick's style," Metro quoted Matthäus as saying.

The Austrian team won its group, ahead of France, the Netherlands and Poland in the quartet. In the 1/8 finals, the Austrians will play against Turkey on July 2.
