Yesterday, the French national team secured a 2-1 away victory against Belgium in the UEFA Nations League, but the match featured a rare event for this team.
Details: In the 78th minute, Real Madrid central midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni received a red card. Within just two minutes, the 24-year-old committed two harsh fouls, earning him two yellow cards from the referee.
Tchouaméni started the match against Belgium, as well as the previous game against Israel (4-1), as captain of the French national team, since Kylian Mbappé was not included in the squad.
With this incident, Tchouaméni became the first French national team captain to be sent off since 2006. The last captain to receive a red card was the legendary Zinedine Zidane, who was sent off for his infamous headbutt on Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final.
Reminder: French captain Kylian Mbappé is currently under investigation in a sexual assault case.
