Spain's national team cancels World Cup final training. What's going on?
The Spanish national team has run into an unexpected obstacle on the eve of the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina. The squad’s final training session was called off due to adverse weather conditions.
The session, scheduled for 11:00 local time at the training base in New Jersey, was cancelled because of a thunderstorm. According to U.S. safety protocols, any outdoor activities are automatically suspended when there is a lightning threat.
The Spanish team waited for nearly 45 minutes hoping for the weather to clear, but the forecast left no window for a full training session. As a result, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) officially announced the cancellation.
Thus, Spain’s players were forced to wrap up their final World Cup preparations in the gym, rather than on the pitch.
