South African football legend Benni McCarthy praises Bafana Bafana striker Evidence Makgopa in the 1-0 win over South Korea
Evidence Makgopa played a real striker's role against South Korea.
The South African striker was able to shield his opponents, protect the ball and also made spaces needed by his team-mates when Bafana Bafana were in attack.
In summary, Makgopa was a central points in Hugo Broos' side when they won 1-0 against South Korea yesterday morning to qualify for the World Cup last-32.
This is according to Bafana legend, Benni McCarthy.
“I think he was the focal point for South Africa. He didn’t really allow the Korean defence a lot of breathing space because him and Rele, they kind of worked really well together as a two,” said McCarthy on Sporty TV.
“It was just a shame, the performance that he had, he didn’t score a goal because that would have been good, because as a coach, me I want to look at my striker and be like yes you’re doing a lot of unbelievable hard ground work but sacrificing for the team, working but when you score you give yourself that cake also that you put a ball in the back of the net.
“That gives you just the satisfaction, all the hard work is for something but he was incredible for South Africa today.”
South Africa face Canada on Sunday in a round of 32 match at 9pm South African time.
