Sipho Chaine presented with another opportunity to write his name in history when Orlando Pirates face Marumo Gallants in the Carling final tomorrow
Sipho Chaine has a chance to be a hero for Orlando Pirates tomorrow night. Chaine has a chance to put his name in the annals of South African football when his Pirates side face Marumo gallants in the Carling Cup final at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
This final presents him with an opportunity to redeem himself as he could not save a single penalty when Pirates were knockout by ST Eloi Lupopo in the Caf Champions League preliminary match.
Chaine was unable to go the right way of all Lupopo’s penalties let alone be able to save a single one.
Not that tomorrow’s final against Gallants will be decided on penalties, but should it go there Chaine has a score to settle with the Sea Robbers supporters.
At some stage, he was a reliable shot-stopper all round but when he started conceding some less suspicious goals, then doubt in his ability started creeping in.
As a goalkeeper who seem interested in his development as a player, Chaine knows this too well also.
His back door entry into Bafana Bafana’s Afcon squad is also a questionable one as he has not impressed in the national team shirt.
He is part of the squad going to Morocco which was announced earlier this week.
In today’s final, Chaine has the opportunity to shut the doubters and show why he is currently the number goalkeeper Pirates relies on.
The match starts at 6pm.
