Aswin Appollis: The Man of the Match Award in the Carling Cup final win against Marumo Gallants was deserved by another Orlando Pirates player not me
Aswin Appollis is a modest man.
The Orlando Pirates midfielder felt the Man of the Match Award received on Saturday night in the Carling Cup final was deserved by someone else and not him.
Pirates beat Marumo Gallants 1-0 at New Peter Mokaba Stadium over the weekend.
Appollis, who is headed to the Africa Cup of Nations this month with Bafana, gave credit to God and his team-mates following the accolade.
“We have to thank the man above to make the win today, and what can I say the boys we fought today and first of all I want to thank the fans who voted for me,” Appollis told SuperSport TV after the game.
“But I think there’s players that deserved it more today because it wasn’t my best game. But like I said thank you to the fans.
“Yes, we have been putting in the work to reach the final, the boys fought today like I said and even in the other previous matches the boys fought but like I said before I don’t think I deserved it today, but thank you to the fans.”
