The resultant draw between Croatia and Albania had an impact not only on these teams, but also on the Serbian national team, which was not happy with what happened in the stands during the match.

Friendly fans from Croatia and Albania in the stands shouted the chant "kill, kill, kill the Serb" and the general secretary of the Serbian federation Jovan Surbatovic, as he himself stated in a conversation with Serbian broadcaster RTS, appealed to UEFA about the incident, and if the bodies do not take action - he threatened to withdraw from the tournament:

"First of all, I want to thank our fans for their support in the match against England and I hope we beat Slovenia. What happened is scandalous and we will ask UEFA for sanctions, even if it means withdrawing from the competition.

We are sure that they will be punished, because they have already reacted to our call to suspend the so-called journalist from Albania from the championship. We will demand that UEFA punish the federations of both teams. We don't want to get involved in this, but if UEFA doesn't punish them, we will think how we should proceed.

We were penalised for isolated incidents and our fans behaved much better than the others. One fan was penalised for racist insults and we don't want that to be attributed to others. We Serbs are gentlemen and we have an open heart, so I urge the fans to remain gentlemen."

Serbia are in last place in Group C after the first round.
