A few weeks after terminating his contract with Wydad Casablanca in Morocco, Senegalese international Mbaye Niang has set foot in Italy. Officially free of any contract since January 1st, Niang returns to familiar territory. The 30-year-old center forward signs his return to Italy, where he had left nearly four months ago to head to Africa.
At the time, he was leaving Empoli after being the hero who saved the club from relegation, scoring the winning goal in the 93rd minute during the final day of Serie A (2-1) on May 26, 2024. Ironically, this time, it is in the second division that the former Senegal Lions striker will continue his career.
As revealed by journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Meulan native arrived in Genoa this Wednesday to sign until the end of the season with Sampdoria, currently 16th in the championship, with only three points ahead of the last relegation place, Salernitana. His arrival has just been made official.
Sampdoria, playing in Italy’s Serie B, announced the signing of Niang on Wednesday. The 29-year-old forward has previously played for several high-profile clubs, including AC Milan, Empoli, and Genoa. He has also had stints with Montpellier, Rennes, Bordeaux, Auxerre in France, Watford in England, Adana Demirspor in Turkey, and Al Ahly in Saudi Arabia.
