Senegal v Mozambique: Nicolas Jackson opens the scoring, Geny Catamo equalises before half-time

The Lions of Teranga nevertheless dominated the first 45 minutes at the Zimpeto National Stadium on the opening day of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Patrick Vieira’s side took control of the match with 63 per cent possession against the Mambas. Nicolas Jackson capitalised on Senegal’s dominance by opening the scoring in the 32nd minute. The Aston Villa striker found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Sima Abdallah, making it 1-0.

But Mozambique reacted quickly to level the score. Geny Catamo equalised for the Mambas as the first half drew to a close. He found the net in the 45+2nd minute to bring the score to 1–1 just before half-time.

The two teams went into the break with the score level. Everything therefore remains to play for in the second half of this opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers between Senegal and the Mambas.
