Real Madrid's first defeat of the La Liga season appears to have brought a tense moment between Vinicius Junior and José Mourinho.
Details: After the final whistle of Real Madrid's 1-0 away defeat to Real Betis, footage showed Vinicius Junior walking past head coach José Mourinho without shaking his hand. The Portuguese manager appeared ready to greet his player, but the Brazilian continued towards the dressing room.
It was an extremely frustrating evening for Mourinho's side in Seville. Troy Parrott scored the only goal in the 81st minute after Thibaut Courtois had initially made a save, ending Real Madrid's perfect start to the new league campaign.
Los Blancos still had a huge opportunity to rescue a point in stoppage time. Natan fouled Vinicius inside the penalty area, but Kylian Mbappé failed to convert the resulting spot kick as Álvaro Valles produced the decisive save. Real Madrid therefore left Seville with their first La Liga defeat under Mourinho since his return to the club.
It is worth noting that before the trip to Betis, Vinicius had started all three of Real Madrid's opening La Liga matches of the 2026/27 season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
