José Mourinho has made it clear that wearing the Real Madrid shirt comes with responsibilities far beyond the football pitch.

Details: Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho publicly criticised defender Raúl Asencio after another off-field controversy involving the 23-year-old Spaniard. The Portuguese coach stressed that he has no complaints about Asencio's attitude at the training ground, but made it clear that a player represents the club at all times.

Mourinho did not hide his disappointment when speaking about the defender:

“I am NOT happy with Raúl Asencio. He is a great professional, no one trained like him. But a Real Madrid player is ALWAYS a Real Madrid player. Even off the pitch. What you do outside, HURTS the image of the club. What I’m saying is I am NOT happy.”

The coach also explained in his press conference that Asencio remains a Real Madrid player while the club's disciplinary proceedings are ongoing. Mourinho noted that everyone can make mistakes, but stressed that repeated incidents are a different matter.

Real Madrid opened a disciplinary file against Asencio after the defender was convicted of drink-driving in Gran Canaria. The player is also currently unavailable through injury and, according to Mourinho, is expected to remain sidelined for another couple of weeks.

It is worth noting that the 23-year-old centre-back has not played for Real Madrid this season because of injury. DailySports previously reported that Transfermarkt currently values the Spanish defender at €10 million.
