Scandal in the Manchester derby. Referee sends off Foden for striking Fernandes
Manchester City were reduced to 10 men as early as the 23rd minute of their derby against Manchester United in the fourth round of the Premier League. City midfielder Phil Foden was shown a straight red card.
The incident occurred in midfield following a heavy collision with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder lightly kicked his opponent, but the City player lost his temper and struck the Red Devils captain with force.
Manchester City must therefore continue their fiercely contested derby against Manchester United with 10 men. Foden's dismissal was one of the key moments of the first half and could have a major impact on the course of the derby.
