Robbie Robinson has officially retired from professional football at the age of 26, citing medical reasons after prolonged injury struggles. The announcement, made via Instagram, brings a premature end to a career that once held great promise, particularly in Chile, where he gained notoriety for abruptly leaving the national team setup. RedGol reported the development.
Robinson was called up to the Chilean national team in September 2021 by coach Reinaldo Rueda, with hopes that he could become the next dual-national success story, following Ben Brereton Díaz. However, before facing Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers, he unexpectedly left training camp and returned to Inter Miami, never appearing for Chile again.
“From a small town in Camden, South Carolina, to living my dream on the field, football has given me everything. But after battling injuries, it’s time to listen to my body,” Robinson wrote. He added his appreciation for the support of family, teammates, and coaches throughout his journey.
Despite retiring, Robinson plans to stay involved in the sport. He announced he will offer private training to young players as part of a new chapter dedicated to mentoring and passing on his knowledge. Though his professional career ends earlier than expected, the Chilean-American forward seems set to make an impact off the pitch.
