River Seeks Bold Move For Salas With Release Clause Under Review

River Plate is considering activating the €8 million net release clause for Maxi Salas as it intensifies efforts to sign the Racing striker. According to reports from Olé, this potential maneuver has triggered concern within Racing Club, where there’s growing unease over whether Salas will formalize an already-agreed contract extension.
The player, 27, has long expressed interest in working with Marcelo Gallardo — a factor that has gained urgency following Sebastián Driussi’s injury ahead of Copa Libertadores knockout stages. With limited striking options available, Gallardo appears increasingly eager to bring Salas into the fold sooner rather than later.
While River officials have not officially confirmed any decision, sources indicate this could mark a rare break from protocol, as Argentine clubs usually avoid triggering release clauses outright, preferring direct negotiations. The situation remains fluid and hinges on upcoming talks between parties involved.
In parallel, River is also pursuing Román Vega from Argentinos Juniors. The left-back is also being courted by Ajax, but the prospect of playing under Gallardo — particularly during Libertadores — makes the "Millonarios" an appealing option. For Argentinos, a partial sale through River could offer better long-term financial returns compared to a full transfer abroad.
