Return to Barcelona? The Catalans could land the star for free
Barcelona are on the verge of bringing João Cancelo back to the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, weeks of negotiations between the Catalan side and Al Hilal are progressing well, and the Portuguese defender could soon find himself back in Spain.
Currently, the Portuguese international is negotiating a contract termination with the Saudi club. According to sources, Barcelona are hoping to secure Cancelo on a free transfer once his deal with Al Hilal is officially dissolved.
The Catalans are already expecting Cancelo to arrive in Spain early next week. The final step to complete his return is obtaining clearance from Al Hilal, who are still discussing the terms of his departure.
It's worth noting that Cancelo has already played for Barcelona on loan. During his six-month spell, the 32-year-old defender made 23 appearances, scored two goals, and provided four assists. After his loan ended, he returned to Al Hilal, but it quickly became clear he was no longer in the club's plans.
If the deal goes through, the Portuguese international will become Hansi Flick's fourth signing after Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon, and Jesse Bisivu.
