The inaugural Club World Cup, featuring 32 teams, is set to kick off in June. However, FIFA still needs to determine one more participant.
Details: According to The Athletic, FIFA has decided which teams will compete for the spot of the disqualified Mexican team León.
The Mexican team América and Los Angeles FC are both in contention for the vacant slot, as they hold the highest CONCACAF rankings.
It is expected that these teams will face each other in a match to earn the right to compete in the Club World Cup.
León was disqualified due to having the same owner as another tournament participant, Pachuca.
According to the draw, the winner of the match between Los Angeles and América will join Chelsea, Esperance, and Flamengo in their group.
Reminder: It was previously reported that Costa Rican team Alajuelense might replace León at the Club World Cup. Read more.
