Raphinha did what even Messi never managed! Incredible Barcelona star enters club history
Raphinha put on a true one-man show in Barcelona's match against Sevilla on matchday seven of La Liga. The Brazilian scored a hat-trick, helping Barcelona to a 3-1 victory and taking his tally to 12 goals in the first seven rounds of the championship.
According to statistician MisterChip, only two players in La Liga history had started a league campaign with more goals. In the 1943/44 season, Echevarría of Oviedo scored 14, while Cristiano Ronaldo found the net 13 times in the 2014/15 campaign. Several other players, including Pruden, Campanal, Mariano Martín and Quini, also scored 12 goals.
At the same time, Raphinha matched a Barcelona club record set by Mariano Martín back in the 1943/44 season. In other words, the Brazilian equaled a milestone that had stood for more than 80 years. Remarkably, not even Lionel Messi had started a La Liga season with as many goals after seven matches.
