Rafael Nadal lost his 50th match on clay

The unmatched Spaniard Rafael Nadal lost 6-3, 6-2 to Portuguese player Nuno Borges in the final in Bastad, marking his fifth loss of the season on clay courts. Prior to this, he had been defeated by Australian Alex de Minaur in Barcelona, Czech Jiří Lehečka in Madrid, Pole Hubert Hurkacz in Rome, and German Alexander Zverev at Roland Garros.
This defeat was Nadal's 50th career loss on his favorite surface. In 2002, at the age of 15, Nadal lost in straight sets to Belgian Olivier Rochus in the second round of the Mallorca tournament, which was his first loss on clay. It is noteworthy that 12 of these 50 losses occurred before he turned 20. During 2004-2005, Nadal set a record with 81 consecutive match wins.
The most challenging opponent for Nadal on clay has been Serbian Novak Djokovic, who has defeated him eight times. Nonetheless, Nadal’s overall clay-court statistics are impressive. He has won a total of 92 titles on this surface.
