Problems for Maresca! Manchester City star forced off with injury in match against Bournemouth
Manchester City were dealt an unwelcome blow in their Premier League opener against Bournemouth. New signing Elliot Anderson suffered an injury and was forced to leave the pitch in the 63rd minute.
This was a Premier League debut for the 23-year-old midfielder in a Manchester City shirt following his move from Nottingham Forest. The Englishman started the match in the starting eleven, but was unable to complete the full 90 minutes.
After picking up the injury, Anderson could not continue and was substituted. Mateo Kovacic came on to replace him. At this stage, it is unclear how serious the injury is or whether he will be available for City's upcoming fixtures.
This incident is made even more frustrating given the size of the transfer fee. Manchester City spent around £116 million on Anderson, counting on him to become a key figure in the squad.
As a result, the expensive new signing's debut was marred by injury. For City boss Enzo Maresca, this is a potentially serious headache already in the very first round of the campaign.
