Preparing Carrick's replacement? Manchester United makes contact with decorated manager
Manchester United have already begun exploring a potential replacement for Michael Carrick. According to Goal, citing Calciomercato, the English club's hierarchy has made preliminary contact with Antonio Conte and is considering the Italian as the leading candidate for the managerial post if the situation with Carrick continues to deteriorate.
United have made a disastrous start to the 2026/27 season. The team have suffered defeats to Hull City, Manchester City and Brighton, although they have also recorded home victories over Ipswich and Sabah.
Conte, meanwhile, remains without a club following his departure from Napoli and already has extensive experience working in England. The 57-year-old previously managed Tottenham and Chelsea, with whom he won the Premier League title.
Carrick will have to use the international break to turn the situation around. Afterward, Manchester United will play two difficult matches in the space of three days — first hosting Tottenham before travelling to face Atlético. Another poor run could accelerate Conte's arrival at Old Trafford.
