Pitso Mosimane, a South African coach, has disclosed the reasons behind his resignation from Esteghlal FC, pointing to unpaid salaries and unstable clubs.
Mosimane discussed his experience in Iran in an interview with 5FM, saying, "Esteghlal is a big club in Iran and Asia." We played in the AFC Champions League against teams like Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr and Riyad Mahrez’s Al Ahli. As an African coach, this was a great opportunity."
However, financial issues forced him to terminate his contract early.
Why Mosimane Left?
Mosimane underlined that he needed to safeguard his reputation and career: "I have played football for 26 years. I couldn't go without pay. In addition to having 100 instructors and employees that depend on me, I also have kids to support."
He also admitted that Esteghlal was in a poor state, comparing it to an underperforming Manchester United but with no proper structure or financial backing.
A Tough Period in Mosimane’s Career
Since leaving Al Ahly in 2022, Mosimane has struggled for stability, with short stints at Al Ahli Jeddah, Al Wahda, Abha FC, and Esteghlal.
Now back in South Africa, he is expected to carefully choose his next club to prove he still belongs at the top level.
