Raheem Sterling's turbulent year away from the pitch has reached a courtroom, and the outcome is now in the hands of a judge.

Details: Raheem Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following his Lamborghini crash on the M3 motorway in May, Sky News reports. The 31-year-old footballer crashed into motorway barriers in a single-vehicle collision near the Minley interchange on May 28. Sentencing will follow at a later date.

The case had been building since late August, when Hampshire police formally charged the former England international over the crash, with a charge of nitrous oxide possession also reported at the time. The guilty plea now opens the way to sentencing, where dangerous driving convictions in the UK can carry anything from a driving ban to a prison term, though previous high-profile cases involving footballers have often ended in suspended sentences. For Sterling, it is another chapter in a dramatic decline from his peak years. Once a 82-cap England star and four-time Premier League champion with Manchester City, he left Chelsea by mutual agreement in January 2026 after more than a year without a competitive appearance for the Blues, eventually resurrecting his career at Feyenoord in the Netherlands. The Rotterdam club has not yet commented on whether the verdict will affect his status, but with a sentence pending and his reputation again in the headlines for the wrong reasons, Sterling's road back to the top just became even steeper.

It's worth noting that Sterling won four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and five League Cups during his seven seasons at Manchester City before joining Chelsea in 2022.

Reminder: Winter raid! European giants plot January swoop for Arsenal winger Madueke.
