Patrice Beaumelle on Esperance match against Mamelodi Sundowns: Records are meant to be broken and we plan to do that today against Sundowns at Loftus
Patrice Beaumella remains defiant that Esperance can turn things around this afternoon at Loftus Versveld in their Caf Champions League semi-final tie.
The Esperance coach said they believe in that a win in Pretoria is a possibility despite statistics defying that belief as they lost 1-0 at home to Sundowns in the first leg last Sunday.
Sundowns have only lost one game at Loftus in 18 Champions League matches and that loss was against Esperance two years ago in the semi-finals of the continental competition.
“It's always statistics, and statistics are made to be changed," Beaumelle revealed in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.
"Of course, it's one indicator that they are very efficient, very good in this competition. But I remember one month ago, we went to Cairo. Esperance had never beaten Al Ahly there in history, and we made it and scored three goals, so everything is possible in football."
His main concern going into this afternoon’s match is the efficient play which they lacked at home a weekend ago.
"We made a very good game, I think we put trouble in Sundowns last week, but we were not efficient,” said the former MC Alger coach.
"So, we just have to believe in ourselves, as we believed in Cairo in the past. Everything is possible, we will see tomorrow."
The match starts at 3pm.
