“Our leagues are very poor”. FIFPRO Africa union chief makes bold statement

Despite good matches, like Mamelodi Sundowns vs Borussia Dortmund, none of four African teams has qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup play-off stage. FIFPRO Africa general secretary Kgosana Masaseng thinks that it’s the time for strong decisions.
Details: Head of the football union has stated that African leagues are too weak, especially by letting players go to stronger leagues. Masaseng calls for discipline, when it’s going about debts to players and infrastructural conditions.
Quote: “Largely, our leagues are very poor, that’s for starters. Second, they don’t even have infrastructure. I would love to see them working on gently is capacity building. Once we are all aligned, then we can talk about the next phase, which is to professionalise. Then we can look at the next phase, which is to grow the kids and grow football.
But now there are small pockets of good progress and the rest are not joining. It’s not coordinated, which makes it difficult to sell the product. It could be because of better facilities to develop these players or whether the leagues in those countries are paying well. There are a mix of factors, but we need to retain our top talent in the continent so we can sell a better product. Then we’ll attract many other things that come with the game”, Masaseng said, as quoted by The Guardian.
