Moussa Niakhate leaves Senegal camp due to injury
The Lions of Teranga will have to manage without their captain for the remainder of the international break.
Currently in Marseille preparing for their international friendly against the Comoros, scheduled for 4 October at the Velodrome, the Senegalese national team has been dealt a blow with the withdrawal of Moussa Niakhate. The defender, who featured in the first two matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique (1–1) and Ethiopia (1–0), is not in peak physical condition.
Having sustained an injury, he underwent an MRI scan on Thursday 1 October in Marseille to assess his condition. Following the results of the tests, manager Patrick Vieira decided to release his captain, the Senegalese Football Federation announced. Moussa Niakhate will therefore not take part in the friendly match against the Comoros.
The defender will return to his club to continue his medical treatment and recovery.
